Software Development Team Lead


The Software Development Team Lead will be part of an agile development team, building and working on software systems mostly on top of Node.js / React stack. The Software Development Team Lead will provide technical and team leadership through coaching and mentorship.

You will be responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members on a daily basis. As a team leader, you will be the contact point for all team members, so your communication skills should be excellent. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.


About us

Based in Cork, Wavebreak Media is one of the largest independently owned producers of digital media assets in the stock media industry, owning a library of over 1.2 million media assets. We create assets across images and videos, Adobe templates and Motion Graphics. These creative assets are used in our core revenue stream of stock media by creating additional media products that can be reused over and over again.

We have two web applications, Design Wizard and PikWizard. Design Wizard (designwizard.com) is an online graphic design tool that enables users to create and share brilliant visual content within minutes in a fun and easy way. PikWizard (pikwizard.com) is a free stock website with over 1 million images and videos.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Guide team development efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship.
  • Guide team to increase the code quality continuously.
  • Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture.
  • Monitor team performance and report on metrics.
  • Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user's requirements, development of user stories, estimates and work plans.
  • Prepare reports, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of software.
  • Provide regular and effective progress updates.
  • Design, develop, and unit test applications in accordance with established standards.
  • Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code (code reviews).
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems.
  • Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team members and other affected parties.
  • Motivate team members.
  • Discover training needs and provide coaching.
  • Listen to team members’ feedback and resolve any issues or conflicts.
  • Suggest and organize team building activities

Desired Skills & Experience

Minimum Requirements
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Software Developer.
  • Prior experience in a technical leadership position.
  • College or University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in English – you will be managing an international team.

Core Competency Requirements
  • Proficient with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React.
  • SQL knowledge (MySQL specifically, indexing, scaling, etc.).
  • Proficient with git, Docker, Jenkins.
  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Experience with AWS, microservices.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies including Kanban and Scrum.
  • Experience with debugging, performance profiling and optimization.
  • Experience with automated testing.
  • Strong communication skills with both internal team members and external business stakeholders.

Preferred Competency Requirements
  • Experience with JIRA.
  • Experience with sonarqube.
  • Experience with Loopback.
  • Experience with Python, PHP.
  • Experience with user interface design and prototyping.

Motion Graphic Artist

An established fast growing digital media production company in Cork, with over 50 employees, is seeking an experienced Motion Graphics Artist. We are looking for an experienced Artist to join our Cork team to expand our Motion Graphic Template portfolio and animation content for the global stock media market. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding Irish company in the field of creative media.

Reporting to the Head of Animation, the successful candidate will be responsible for their own idea generation, design, animation and the creation of final motion graphic products. The candidate should be able to show both understanding and ability in the creation of stunning visual content. If you are looking for a super exciting opportunity to create media content that will be used by artists all around the world, then this role is for you.


Main Duties:

  • Work with the Animation team to create content for the Stock Media marketplace.
  • Research, identify trends and new styles that are in high demand.
  • Design visually stunning motion graphics that stand out and compete on a global marketplace.
  • Create complex high end control systems to allow the end user to create variations.

Requirements:

  • Creative and driven artist with a focus in motion graphic / animation.
  • Excellent communication skills & an ability to communicate visual ideas.
  • Be comfortable working to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team in all areas of a project from concept through to final product.
  • Be able to identify trends and styles to create visuals that will appeal to a large audience.
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years experience in a Motion Graphics or Animation position.
  • Advanced experience with Adobe After Effects.
  • Experience with After Effects Expressions is considered a plus.
  • Knowledge of other animation / compositing / 3d animation software is considered a plus.
